As promised, here are some that Jason has bloomed. The first two are
actually some that survived with no care at all for probably a year, in
the greenhouse, until we started preparing to move in. With a little tender
loving care, much to Jason's surprise, he found that he can grow orchids.
So we've gone nuts and bought a lot more, some in bloom at the time of
purchase. The first orchid, Dialaeliacattleya Elfstar, a cross of several
other orchids, shown a bit smaller than lifesize, was the first one to bloom
and we found that we were allowed to name it as that cross had never been
named before. We contacted the people who had made the cross,
Riverbend Orchids, whom Ed had actually
known for years and offered them the option but they graciously allowed us
to name it. Based on the parent names, we decided to call it Elfstar. The
next to bloom was Barkeria dorotheae, a species from the Mexican desert,
shown much bigger than life. Third is a Dendrobium cross that has been
tentatively identified by a friend, who's something of an expert, as
Dendrobium New Guinea, but this has not been verified.
